ABOUT EBEE

Ebee is a Kenyan start-up with Dutch roots founded in 2021. Ebee is on a bold mission to make cities in Sub Saharan Africa cleaner and more habitable. We believe that E-bikes can greatly contribute to this. The massive growth in popularity of E-bikes over the last decade has proven that E-bikes can replace traditional two wheelers for a lot of use cases. E-bikes are also a great tool to generate income as a last mile delivery vehicle. Where many western countries have already embraced E-bikes for daily use, there is still a huge opportunity for adoption in Sub Saharan Africa.

Doing business in Africa poses unique challenges like a lack of consumer financing and absence of a service network. To navigate these challenges and facilitate the mass adoption of E-bikes we have developed the first E-bike subscription and rent-to-own offering in Sub Saharan Africa. Our primary focus is on the last mile delivery market, our E-bikes are specifically designed for food and light parcel delivery. We have exciting partnerships with local delivery platforms like Jumia and Bolt as well as large restaurant chains like Dominos and KFC to get as many riders on our E-bikes as possible. This way we create sustainable economic opportunities. Ebee is a for-profit company but has a strong social outlook.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Head of E-bike services to build the foundation of Ebee’s service operations in Kenya and beyond. Since E-bikes are a new class of vehicles in the region, there is still a wide knowledge gap on proper maintenance of bikes, especially when it comes to E-bike systems and battery technology. We see it as part of our mission to transfer this knowledge and train as many local E-bike mechanics as possible.

As Head of E-bike services, you will lead, coach and develop a team of mechanics to become masters in their trade. Your main concerns and KPIs revolve around the service, assembly and quality control of our own fleet of E-bikes as well as after sales services for our Rent-to-Own offering. This includes building the right internal systems and tools to reliably scale Ebees service operations around the continent. You will build and own the Ebee services playbook for frontline mechanics. Besides that, you will work closely with the Product team to help work on the next generation E-bikes specifically built for the African market.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • work closely with the Leadership team to design and execute winning service operation strategies and processes;
  • develop the foundational tools, systems and processes to scale Ebees operations, including smart ERP and tool/parts planning systems;
  • hire, train, and manage the next generation of talented mechanics, that will help build our service network;
  • define, track and drive achievement of standards for our broad spectrum of key operational metrics;
  • own the development, standardization and implementation of key operational processes;
  • use feedback from the field and workshop to help the product team to continuously improve our E-bike offering;
  • co-design the process for making our e-bikes circulair, including refurbishing components.

YOUR PROFILE

You will build and lead one of the most vital teams within Ebee consisting of technicians, mechanics, and senior mechanics. For this role the following attributes are needed:

  • you have at least 5 years relevant working experience as an Operations Manager of an e-bike service (ideally shared or subscription service);
  • you have experience in hiring, training, managing and transferring knowledge to a team of mechanics;
  • you have all round deep knowledge of both bike mechanics and E-bike systems, including but not limited to BOSCH Active Line;
  • You have experience with setting up and improving workstations, writing SOP and ensuring they are respected to reach high operations quality standards.
  • you have experience with setting-up or working with ERP, workshop planning and maintenance systems;
  • you have affinity with the African continent, experience working in the region is a big plus;
  • you have outstanding patience and understanding for cultural differences and language barriers;
  • you have great control of the English language;
  • you are willing to travel to other parts of the continent if this is deemed necessary for the expansion of Ebee;
  • you are a creative problem solver.

WHAT DO WE OFFER

  • Opportunity to be part of a well-funded start-up in an early phase with superb growth potential in the African market.
  • You will gain invaluable insight into the fast-growing African business environment.
  • Exciting workshop in the middle of vibrant Nairobi.
  • A position that can really make an impact on people and the planet.
  • We are a balanced mix of experienced senior team members and young, energetic and talented individuals with a proven track record in Europe and Africa.
  • Competitive remuneration to Western standards adjusted to Kenyan cost of living.
  • In case of current residency outside of Kenya we offer full assistance with finding housing in Nairobi.
  • Flight Tickets to Nairobi included.
